Intramuros Cover Edition x WhiteWall |

From the cover to the art print

WhiteWall x Intramuros

The design and architecture magazine Intramuros is celebrating its 40th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Intramuros is launching its first collection of iconic covers, which readers and fans can now order as printed and framed artworks through WhiteWall. Thanks to the WhiteWall app for Shopify, Intramuros was able to create its own online gallery, enabling automated sales of its covers.

Interview with the editorial team

How did the idea of creating an art edition from the magazine covers come about?

Intramuros represents 40 years of design history, with iconic covers that often highlighted, for the first time, those who reinvented our relationship with objects.

On the occasion of the magazine’s 40th anniversary, we had the opportunity to revisit these 225 covers and were once again surprised by their remarkable consistency. It’s a history of design unfolding before our eyes, with distinct periods: from 1985 to 2021, designer portraits appeared almost systematically on the cover; from 2021 onwards, we decided to focus more radically on showcasing creation itself.

What is your goal?

The goal is to give our readers the chance to own this history of Intramuros, and more broadly, this rich period of design history.

It could be a favorite designer featured on an Intramuros cover, a memorable issue, or simply a purely aesthetic choice — it doesn’t matter. Intramuros explores the relationship between humans and objects, design and life, so it makes sense that the magazine can now decorate and inhabit its readers’ walls.

How was the idea received by your readers?

Apparently with great enthusiasm, given the large number of participants in our contest to elect an iconic cover for each decade. Many readers and designers around us are eagerly waiting to order their prints.

Why did you choose WhiteWall?

We wanted a partner that could provide the highest quality for printing these covers. We were committed to gallery-quality prints that respect the original creation, highlighting the cover itself without alteration or compromise. WhiteWall quickly proved to be the obvious choice.

Selected WhiteWall photo products

For this edition, Intramuros has chosen a matte acrylic glass photo print with a Slimline frame. This elegant and subtle finish highlights the contours of the artwork while enhancing the nuances and colors of the image.

About Intramuros

In 1985, Chantal Hamaide founded Intramuros. Laurent Denize d’Estrées, then 23, and Frédéric Marty, 3, belong to two generations united by the same passion for design. Loyal readers of the magazine — from the very first issue for one, and from 2004 for the other — they now embody its continuity.

The first, a historic figure in French design, made Intramuros a privileged witness of his professional life. The second, passionate about design and architecture, wanted to breathe new life into a title that had inspired him.

Their meeting, both professional and friendly, forged a shared goal: to preserve the legacy of Intramuros and maintain its status as France’s leading design reference. Laurent Denize d’Estrées and Frédéric Marty now lead the magazine, as editor and editor-in-chief, respectively.
