Sarah Palmer

Sarah Palmer, born in 1986, is a Toronto-based photographer. Her work moves between journalism and fine art, challenging the conventional boundaries of each world. She explores pop culture and current events with a focus on the subcultures that these gatherings attract. She has photographed Celine Dion’s superfans in Las Vegas, a snowbird’s journey to Florida, and Barbie’s ongoing cultural influence. She is interested in how we find our way in the world, and in her recent work, she examines the climate crisis and the impact we have on one another and the environment. She works on projects equipped with up to ten cameras at once, and her photographic style is unique—she shoots on film and composes multiple exposures in-camera without manipulating them in post-production. Sarah is a recipient of the National Magazine Awards, American Photography, and the Magenta Flash Forward. Her work has been published by TIME, The Washington Post, and The Globe and Mail, and has received generous support from Canada, Ontario, and the Toronto Arts Council. Her work has been exhibited internationally.

For intense colors – even under rough conditions:
WhiteWall ChromaLuxe HD Metal Prints

For the “horizonte zingst” environmental photo festival, we have created an exhibition that makes special demands: 24 large-format works by photo artist Sarah Palmer, presented in the open air on the Postplatz in Zingst. And for a whole year. Sun, rain, wind and snow: the prints have to withstand all weather conditions on the Baltic Sea.

Our solution? ChromaLuxe HD Metal Prints.

ChromaLuxe HD Metal Prints impress with their exceptional color depth and are extremely robust at the same time. They are therefore perfect for outdoor presentations. The works retain their luminosity even under the most adverse conditions. Whether at the height of summer or in icy temperatures, these prints always shine. We worked closely with ChromaLuxe to produce the exhibition - and accompanied the entire process from the first print to the vernissage.

Step 1 – Printing on transfer paper

In the first production step, the motif is mirror-inverted onto a special transfer paper using a high-resolution inkjet printer. The result looks pale at first – but that's just the beginning. The transfer paper is then precisely positioned and fixed onto the bright white ChromaLuxe material with the image side facing down. Thus prepared, the path to the final print begins.

Step 2 – Dye sublimation

Now the actual finishing process begins: under high temperature and pressure, the ink from the transfer paper is vaporized directly into the special coating of the ChromaLuxe plate – a process known as dye sublimation. The result: the motif fuses permanently with the surface and develops the characteristic radiance of ChromaLuxe HD Metal Prints – with brilliant colors and exceptional durability.

Step 3 — Cutting to the final format

In the final step, the final format is milled out of the panel with millimeter precision – exactly 170 × 120 cm / 66.9 x 47.2 inches for the exhibition in Zingst. This process not only enables maximum precision, but also maximum design freedom: with WhiteWall, individual formats are standard – without trimming, entirely according to your requirements.

The result — photography outdoors. For a whole year.

Like many contributions to the environmental photography festival Horizonte, the exhibition 'Wish You Were Here' by Sarah Palmer can be seen in Zingst for twelve months – a strong statement for the durability of our ChromaLuxe HD Metal Prints. This technique combines exceptional color brilliance with extreme durability – and proves that fine art doesn't have to stay indoors.
