We craft with care and dedication
to create lasting products that move and endure.

As a photo lab committed to quality, durability, and precision, sustainability isn’t just important to us — it’s part of our daily decisions. What we do leaves a mark. That’s why we handle resources consciously and responsibly.

We’re not perfect. But we continuously work to improve. Whether it’s in our choice of materials, shipping, or production, we question processes, explore alternatives, and look for solutions that are more environmentally friendly and meaningful. Some things take time. But every step matters. And that’s exactly where we begin.

Key areas of sustainability

Company

We act responsibly, both internally and externally. This includes clear processes, fair business relationships, and a mindful way of working together. We are committed to transparency, a sustainable supply chain, and a corporate culture built on respect, openness, and trust.

Environment

We take our responsibility for the environment seriously and continuously work to reduce our impact. We regularly examine how we can save energy, avoid waste, and use more sustainable materials and technologies. We do this with a clear perspective and a practical approach for a future worth living.

Commitment

For us, sustainability also means empowering people and communities. Our focus is on the photographic field, where supporting the next generation of professionals is particularly important to us. By signing the Diversity Charter, we also commit to an open and respectful culture – both within our team and beyond.

For us, sustainability and quality are not mutually exclusive. They go hand in hand.

Our Certifications: ISO 14001 & ISO 50001

For us, sustainability is not just a principle, we also have our actions regularly reviewed. That is why we are certified according to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).

These internationally recognized standards help us systematically pursue our environmental and energy goals and achieve measurable progress. It is about more than just compliance: we regularly analyze our energy consumption, optimize processes, and reduce environmental impacts along our entire value chain. The certifications are issued by an independent, accredited body and confirmed annually through an audit.

For our clients, this means they work with a photo lab that combines quality and responsibility - transparent, verifiable, and future-oriented.

Responsibility starts with the material

Many of our paper and wood products come from responsibly managed forests. For us, this means focusing not only on the highest image quality, but also on the origin and sustainability of the materials on which your artworks are created.

Our photo lab is certified according to the strict standards of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®). This certification confirms that we comply with defined environmental and social standards along the entire supply chain, from sourcing to production. Products that are FSC® certified are indicated in the shopping cart.

Various printed products, including wall art, a calendar, and photo books, are arranged on a wooden table and wall. To the right, the green FSC logo is displayed with the text "The mark of responsible forestry," indicating sustainable forest management.

Sustainability requires transparency

For us, sustainability also means openly showing what we do.

As part of the CEWE Group, our activities are included in the group-level sustainability reporting. These reports follow the requirements of the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and make key topics such as climate protection, energy use, human rights, and corporate responsibility measurable and transparent.

Sustainability in practice

Products

Our standard is clear: products of high quality that bring lasting enjoyment. That is why we produce them ourselves in our manufactory in Germany with great care and craftsmanship you can see and feel. We select materials consciously to ensure durability and a premium tactile experience.

Even after purchase, we are there for you. With personal service and individual advice, we ensure that every product is used and appreciated to its fullest.

Energy

Our machines are regularly maintained to ensure they run efficiently over the long term. In the production halls, LED lighting provides good illumination while consuming little energy. We continuously optimize our processes using lean production methods to avoid unnecessary energy loss. In addition, we use the waste heat from our compressed air system to support the heating system. All WhiteWall locations are powered with green electricity.

To stay on track, all measures are regularly reviewed and further developed as part of our energy management system according to ISO 50001.

Materials

With more than 1,000 possible product combinations, careful selection of materials, both from an economic and ecological perspective, is crucial.

For our high-quality products, we rely on equally high-quality raw materials. We maintain long-term partnerships with our suppliers and, particularly for large-volume materials, first consider regional providers, then suppliers from Germany, and depending on the location, from the Netherlands. This reduces CO₂ emissions through short transport routes and strengthens regional value chains.

For all wood, cardboard, and paper materials, we ensure certified products, such as those with FSC® or equivalent labels. We are continuously working towards full transparency regarding all materials used. The plastic corners of our hangers already consist of 100% recycled materials.

Even in our manufactory, we place great value on efficient material use. Precise production processes minimize waste and allow us to use our resources optimally.

Outbound Logistics

WhiteWall ships worldwide. The choice of packaging and shipping provider depends on the product type and order volume. One thing is most important to us: that the artwork arrives safely and undamaged. Each package is custom-sized on demand to minimize empty space. In 2024, 41% of our shipments were handled via the climate-neutral transport service DHL GoGreen. The emissions generated during transport are offset through certified climate protection projects. Our goal is to increase this share in the coming years.

To make transport routes more efficient, we consolidate larger shipments to business customers into planned delivery tours.

Waste Logistics & Circular Economy

We carefully separate our waste: paper and cardboard, aluminum, wood, and plastic are collected separately. We also make use of the possibility to dispose of electronic waste, batteries, and ink and toner cartridges separately.

Chemicals generated during the production of traditional photos are stored properly and transported for disposal by qualified personnel. To protect water, we regularly send wastewater samples for testing.

Our waste is collected by a certified disposal company, which provides us annually with a report including proof of how the waste was disposed of or recycled. This allows us to keep track and review every year where we can still improve. In close collaboration with our disposal partner, we are constantly seeking practical solutions.
