4 QUESTIONS TO THADDAEUS BIBERAUER

Can you tell us a little bit about how you became a photographer? Where does this interest come from?

I always had interest in photography and art in general. Some photos and paintings always drew my attention but I never really thought about getting into photography myself. Until 2019 where I bought my first camera and started to make myself familiar with all the settings and different types of lenses out there.. which was more than overwhelming at that time. So I barely made use of my camera for photography though. I mostly used it for filming my friends and myself in different sports like wakeboarding and snowboarding.

So after sometime... in March 2021 I created an instagram account to challenge myself getting better and creating content regularly. It didn't take long and I found myself shooting everyday. I found the full potential of photography for myself. It motivates you to go outside despite any weather conditions. Furthermore if you're out anyway or doing whatever you can combine that with photography and make everything more interesting. Feeling like there are no more annoying appointments or distances to travel because you can always fallback taking pictures and use that time having a blast.

Photography helps me to appreciate all the little things in life more. I also started paying more attention to my surroundings and see beautiful things which I would otherwise have overlooked with certainty. To sum it up photography is just wonderful! It gives me the freedom to do whatever I want without anyone interfering.

Please share something about your images. What is your special interest? How do you choose the colors, composition, themes etc.?

I capture my surroundings with a mostly dreamlike feel. I try to create a feeling or a mood with my photos rather than documenting the reality of a situation. I don't know if I have a special interest, I'm pretty much interested in everything. But because I live on the country side I mostly take walks somewhere in nature mostly near a forest or a river so as a matter of course that's my main interest.

With certainty the distortions/blurs are currently one of the most important parts in my photography. I love experimenting with all different kinds of things to manipulate the camera/lenses to create an image which wouldn't be apparent in reality.

Compositions heavily depend on the applied manipulation and come instinctively. Color-Grading is also a very important part of my photography. The Base-Color depends on what the image naturally provides. But I guess my mood whilst editing the photo leads to the direction of the final image.

How do you get inspired? And what inspires you the most? Films, books, or magazines? Or what surrounds you?

I mostly get inspired by nature or my surroundings. Of course films and magazines also motivates me to reset my approach and try something new/different.

What are your plans for the rest of the day?

Since it's nearly evening I probably get a beer and edit a new image. Furthermore I gotta pack my backpack because I'm leaving to Ireland tomorrow.
