This is how photographer Alan Schaller describes the image from his series 'Street Safari':
“I've always been drawn to photographing animals in urban environments. This image captures a goose landing on water in Hyde Park, a moment I've witnessed countless times. By reducing the scene to its essential forms of light, shadow, and geometry, the familiar becomes almost abstract. Sky and water merge into one, while the bird leaves a bright trail across the darkness. A simple moment, transformed by photography into something unexpected.”
The Artist
Alan Schaller is a London-based photographer and Leica Ambassador whose work has become a defining reference in contemporary black-and-white street photography. Working primarily in urban environments, his images are known for their strong contrast, graphic composition, and careful attention to light and form. His work has been exhibited internationally in over 30 solo shows and published widely, and he regularly collaborates with cultural institutions, brands, and publications.
Alongside his artistic practice, Alan has spent over a decade building communities for photographers worldwide. He is the co-founder of Street Photography International and the founder of Irys, a photography-first app and creative ecosystem designed to celebrate the craft, connect photographers, and create meaningful opportunities, both online and offline, through curated content, publishing, brand partnerships, events, and other real-world initiatives.
